Site Preparation

There are certain steps you can take to ensure you’ll be using your shed, barn or DreamSpace™ for years to come, the most important being to install a quality pad.

Quality pads are key to keeping your new purchase safe, sound and stellar. We recommend at least a 6- to 12-inch crushed stone base that’s at least two feet bigger than the structure itself on either side. That way, you have a reliable drainage design that eliminates any moisture that manages to creep underneath.

Without that foundational pad, it might not matter how much time and care your shed is built with. A lack of proper drainage can wreak damage on any structure. The results are frustrations and costs we don’t want you to have to deal with.

To demonstrate what we’re talking about here, take a stroll through a development. And while you do, specifically pay attention to the older sheds on the properties. When you do, you’re unfortunately almost guaranteed to find a whole lot of rot creeping up the sides from the bottom of the structure. The floors inside could be even worse.

Prepared stone bases are meant to solve that problem, saving you time, hassle and money in the process. They take into account the nature of a good rainstorm coming down on your shed. As all that moisture hits your roof, dripping down the sides to fall from there, it inevitably splashes onto your sidewalls.

The chances of one single rainstorm doing any lasting damage are slim to none. But how many do we get a year? How about in five years?

All that dampness gradually begins creeping in, causing the doors and lower siding of the sheds to rot, deteriorating something that should otherwise last and last.

When you have us install a suitable crushed stone pad for you, however, you can expect a much better result. The drainage from a properly prepared surface, along with the quality materials used, keeps the rainwater on the ground, which is exactly where it should go.
